A Day in the Life of CHRISTUS Healthy Living Mobile Clinics’ Supervisor

Some of the most meaningful days in our Mobile Clinic program begin just like any other. One morning, two teams were providing vaccinations through the Vaccines for Children program at local schools. During a routine check-in, one team reported that many more students needed vaccines than expected, so I headed to the school to help.

When I arrived, the clinic was busy. I stepped in to help with administrative tasks so a nurse could focus on reviewing immunization records, allowing us to move students through the process more efficiently.

Later, we discovered we were running low on two vaccines with about fifteen students still waiting. I returned to the office to pick up additional vaccines and supplies, including needles, and brought them back to the school. Because we were able to respond quickly, every student received their vaccinations that day.

The results were remarkable. The school later achieved 99% vaccine compliance, up from 35% in just two years. Through partnerships, outreach and care delivered directly where students are, we helped close a significant gap in access to preventive healthcare.

Moments like these highlight the importance of being flexible, responsive and committed to meeting children where they are. It is this approach that helps ensure underserved children receive the preventive care they need to thrive.
