In mid-March, schools across the city shut down to protect students and staff from the spread of COVID-19. CHRISTUS School Clinics Medical Assistants are temporarily providing support to other missions, including CHRISTUS St. Mary’s Clinic and CHRISTUS Point of Light Clinic.

CHRISTUS School Clinics’ Ursula Villarreal, Nohemi Flores and Denisse Hardy have undertaken a critical project for CHRISTUS St. Mary’s Clinic and CHRISTUS Healthy Living Mobile Clinics. Children’s vaccines administered through our clinics and the mobile clinic are provided through the Vaccines for Children Program by the State of Texas. In FY19, CHRISTUS Foundation for Healthcare delivered over 9,000 vaccinations.

With new protocols in place, the State is now requiring all vaccinations be tracked through its IMMTRAC system. Villarreal, Flores and Hardy are busily inputing not only recent vaccines administered by our clinics, but also historical shot records. Many of our patients have recently immigrated to the area and are bringing their paper records from abroad. The IMMTRAC system will now show a complete record of their immunizations should their paper records ever become lost. Villarreal, Flores and Hardy are currently halfway through the project.

According to Sharon Smith, a Registered Nurse with the School Clinic program, Villarreal, Flores and Hardy are the best people for the job. “Their history with the Mobile Clinic program and their knowledge of St. Mary’s Clinic make them perfect candidates for the IMMTRAC project. Having them available has been a blessing to our organization.”
