Gaining Her Citizenship

In 2019, Gloria Ordonez came to the United States to be closer to her children and granddaughters, and through her daughter’s citizenship, was able to apply for residency. “As I began a period of personal integration into this society and country, I had the benefit of meeting Mexican, Venezuelan and Colombian women who have been angels on my path,” said Ordonez. “Through them, I learned about CHRISTUS Learning Center.”

Originally from Bogotá, Columbia, Ordonez started in person citizenship classes through CHRISTUS Learning Center and continued online after moving to New York City. To work towards the exam, Ordonez took classes with both Norma Vasquez and Yolanda Hunt. “I admire Norma’s passion for teaching and Yolanda’s joy and dedication. I thank the Learning Center for giving us this opportunity.”

In 2024, Ordonez completed her classes and took her citizenship exam. “Becoming an American citizen makes me feel happy, safe and free. I am grateful for the kindness of many people in this country.”
