Giving Parents Peace Of Mind
For CHRISTUS Healthy Living Mobile Clinics, the goal of herd immunity in student vaccinations can be a long, but inspiring road. Since the partnership with Houston Independent School District and the Harris Health Department began a year ago, the Mobile Clinics are seeing the fruits of their labor.
Acccording to Nancy Bocanegra, Mobile Clinics administrative supervisor, the schools in the partnership were at a 35% compliance in the beginning and are now at 90% compliance.
One school in the partnership has 2,000 students. “We call it the chip-away approach,” said Bocanegra. “We make many visits throughout the school year, and in some cases, it can take a whole year until a school is up to date on vaccinations.”
During one October visit to Wisdom High School, the team met with a student who started her vaccines in December 2024. “The student was so used to getting vaccinated almost every month that she showed up to our October clinic. We were able to inform her that she was finally up to date, and her response was ‘What? I’m done?’ She was very happy.”
Supported by advancements in medical science and evidence‑based care, the CHRISTUS Healthy Mobile Clinics overcome uncertainty and deliver peace of mind and protection to parents and their children.
