Health Screenings in the Community
In January of 2023, CHRISTUS Healthy Living Mobile Clinics was able to resume health screenings safely following COVID to those communities with little access to care. Screenings continued in 2024 with the use of on-site readings for cholesterol and diabetes, in addition to blood pressure readings.
“The community is loving the results we are giving the same day,” said Nancy Bocanegra, mobile clinics supervisor. “It’s beautiful how we have been able to provide that service, and it’s something we continue to see where we can streamline or improve.”
The target population for screenings is uninsured, middle-aged communities, as well as some seniors. “As time goes by, Medicare has increased their services, so most of the vaccines and check-ups are covered,” said Bocanegra. “We are focused on 18-60. Our goal is prevention, so health education is a key component to the screenings.”
One of the new benefits launched in 2024 is blood pressure machines. For those patients showing critical high blood pressure and no access to securing a home monitor, the Mobile Clinics can provide one thanks to a donation. “High blood pressure is the main diagnosis we have for health screenings.”
