Music To Their Ears
Over the past year, CHRISTUS Point of Light Clinic has been caring for a mother and her teenage son. “They are financially stressed like so many people, and we have helped them in a couple of different ways,” said Nurse Practitioner Beth Ryan.
The son is in high school marching band and came to Point of Light Clinic for a school physical. “His heart rate was low, and he needed a cardiologist review. He was unable to get an appointment before band camp started, and his mother couldn’t pay the cost,” Ryan said.
Ryan called a former classmate who works in cardiology and explained the situation. “She and the cardiologist worked him into their busy schedule and significantly discounted the fees to an affordable amount. Following his appointment, the cardiologist deemed him healthy enough to participate.”
Recently the young patient came in with an ear infection which required expensive drops as treatment. “Thanks to our donors I was able to give his mother a gift card to offset the cost of the medication,” said Ryan. “It is cases like these that show Point of Light Clinic is committed to helping patients overcome barriers to healthcare.”
