Nourishing Bodies and Spirits This Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving provides us an opportunity to not only nourish the bodies of our clients and patients, but also their spirits.
As in years past, the CHRISTUS Health Team throughout Houston and Galveston provided Thanksgiving food baskets to those in-need at our clinic and program locations. In lieu of complete Thanksgiving meals, 70 families received gift cards to purchase food on their own as well as bags of fruit. These donations were distributed to clients at CHRISTUS St. Mary’s Clinic, CHRISTUS Point of Light Clinic, CHRISTUS Learning Center, and CHRISTUS Our Daily Bread.
For clients like Marcia, it was a blessing to know food was going to be on the table this holiday. Marcia is a single mom of three. She has struggled through life since childhood, but a touch childhood has given her great
determination to give her children a better life. Her only job has been UberEats, but she recently broke her ankle making it impossible to work. Marcia has hardships, but has resolved to make a good life for her family regardless of circumstances.
Down in Galveston, the staff of CHRISTUS Our Daily Bread hosted their annual Thanksgiving meal last Wednesday. Clients were treated to turkey with all the trimmings. Before any meals were served, Angela Joseph, Program Director, and Lori Varela, Office Manager, prayed a special blessing of thanks for the clients, volunteers, and the meal. Many expressed their gratitude for all involved in the preparation of the meal. Sixty meals were served. A
special thanks to Leah Bennett of Westwood Wealth Management for her long-time support of the program and helping serve the meal that day.
