Bringing Smiles To Children’s Faces With CHRISTUS Operation San José
For over 38 years, CHRISTUS Operation San José has performed craniofacial and cleft palate surgeries on children in Latin America. Conditions like these are not unusual in that region due to the lack of access to healthcare, leading to fewer medical visits and medical tests for expectant mothers.
Nineteen medical personnel just returned from seven days in Chihuahua, Mexico with CHRISTUS Operation San José. During that time 36 patients ranging in ages seven months to 16 years old were selected and had multiple procedures performed.
Lead by Dr. Michael Lypka and Dr. Shao Jiang, the surgeries were performed at CHRISTUS Mugerza Hospital – El Parque. Some patients traveled for hours to access the hospital for these life-changing procedures.
According to Maria Salazar, CHRISTUS Operation San José Program Coordinator, it is almost as if they are picking up an operating room here in the States and delivering it to Chihuahua. “We do the work as if we were doing it here. It’s a blessing to the patients.”
It is through the generous support of our donors that these children are not only having their lives changed, but also their families’ lives. Consider a donation today to support one of our surgeries during our 2021 trip. Any amount makes a difference.
