Olga Rojas is the manager of the CHRISTUS Learning Center, a literacy program for adults offered by the CHRISTUS Foundation for HealthCare in Houston. In addition to Olga’s managerial responsibilities she is one of the Center’s instructors and volunteers who conduct several different classes each week.
Rojas, began working in Adult Education with Houston Center for Literacy, formerly the Houston R.E.A.D. Commission, in 1990 in the registration office. Rojas has been enjoying teaching adults for more than twenty-five years.
"In 1992 with Houston R.E.A.D. Commission, I was assigned as an instructor of English as a Second Language (ESL). Then in September of 1996, I was recruited to start a literacy program for the San Jose Clinic, with Sister Margaret Bulmer. In 2010 I was assigned to coordinate the literacy program at the Moran Health Center and this same year, I started working as an ESL Teacher at St. Austin Learning Center, Villa de Matel in the evening.
I enjoy teaching ESL and have seen great results in students’ lives. It has really been a wonderful journey as I have helped students from many countries, such as Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Cuba, Spain, China, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Colombia, Brazil, and many others. I also enjoy learning about each of the student’s countries and cultures as we all learn about the United States and its diverse culture."
