A Testament To Care
Balancing work responsibilities, healthcare, nutrition and financial strain, all present ongoing barriers commonly faced by CHRISTUS Point of Life Clinic patients with chronic conditions.
George*, a 64-year-old patient with insulin-dependent diabetes, continues to navigate these challenges in managing his health without insurance. “While adherence to treatment has been difficult at times, it is clear the struggle stems not from a lack of care, but from the realities of daily life,” said Elizabeth Ryan, nurse practitioner at Point of Light Clinic. “He worries he is letting us down when he cannot fully follow the care plan we have established for him. Still, his commitment shows in his continued return to the clinic.”
Each visit provides another opportunity for the team to work alongside George—helping schedule appointments, securing diabetes medications and offering nutritional support to reinforce healthy choices. “By meeting him where he is, providing encouragement without judgment and maintaining a strong support system, meaningful progress has been made,” said Ryan.
George’s most recent A1C improved to 7.1, down from 11, reflecting significant improvements. “The numbers are a testament to persistence, partnership and compassionate, accessible care.”
