Care To Smile About

In August during the Back To School event at CHRISTUS St. Mary’s Clinic, 50 students from the Archdiocese C.R.O.S.S. schools received free dental screenings from the UT Health Dental School. Following the screenings, 45 dental appointments were booked for uninsured students who needed additional care.

On September 16 at the CHRISTUS Foundation for HealthCare’s building, the additional treatments were provided in partnership with San Jose Clinic and UT Health Dental. Thirty-five volunteers from from the UT Health Dental School and San Jose Dental Clinic assisted in the Dental Health Day.

Participating children received a free exam, X-rays, cleaning, fluoride and sealant. Several were identified as needing more in-depth services, such as fillings, and will receive the remediation needed through UT Health Dental or San Jose Clinic. Each child went home with a dental health kit (toothbrush, floss, & toothpaste), along with oranges and apples to promote good dental health.
