New Equipment Lights A Fire
Since its opening in 1986, CHRISTUS Our Daily Bread has served two meals a day to Galveston’s homeless. The kitchen and its adjoining dining room serves as the heart of the Our Daily Bread building, providing an opportunity to treat clients with dignity and respect through a lunch meal served restaurant-style.
Wear and tear over the years dictated the replacement of both the range/oven and the convection oven. In June, Our Daily Bread received their brand new Wolf range and oven along with two brand new convection ovens. The funds for the equipment were secured through a partial grant and several generous individual donations.
“Working with equipment that operates at the correct temperature is definitely a plus,” Angela Joseph, CHRISTUS Our Daily Bread Program Director. “Not only is the new equipment more efficient but it eliminates down time due to repairs and the added costs associated. This is truly a blessing!”
The equipment was almost a year in becoming a reality, given the research, pricing, inventory, supply chain and shipping needed along with funding. EPI, a wholesale and distribution company for commercial kitchen equipment, stepped in to provide much-needed assistance.
“A big thanks to Bill Cassidy of EPI,” Jeannette Baughman, CHRISTUS Program Manager, said. ”He provided discounted pricing, including installation and shipping, along with donating the secondconvection oven. We are so grateful.”
