Serving underserved and uninsured communities of all faiths, ages and cultures in the Greater Houston and Galveston areas
Who we are and what we do
In 1866, the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word came to Galveston with a mission to heal "the sick and infirm of all kinds." In 1887, they expanded their reach with St. Joseph’s Infirmary, Houston's first general hospital.
While the focus has shifted from hospital care to primary care and related services, CHRISTUS Foundation for Healthcare continues the original mission by serving the needs of underserved and uninsured communities of all faiths, ages, and cultures in the Greater Houston and Galveston areas.
Our seven programs address primary care and mental health care for children and adults through stationary clinics, mobile clinics, and school clinics, in addition to attending to the physical and mental health needs of Galveston’s homeless.
CHRISTUS Mobile Clinics
CHRISTUS Healthy Living Mobile Clinics fill a healthcare gap by providing direct access to men, women and children who would otherwise be excluded from care. Our two mobile units reach medically underserved and often difficult-to-reach segments of the population, many of whom are not diagnosed with major health problems until health problems become critical. We serve six area counties, including Harris, Galveston, Montgomery, Waller, Fort Bend, and Brazoria.
CHRISTUS School Clinics
CHRISTUS School Clinics keep students healthy and in school through basic medical and screening services and mental health counseling. Each year, 9 CHRISTUS School Clinics are called upon more than 6,000 times to care for children at school – where they spend the greatest portion of their day.
CHRISTUS St. Mary's Clinic
Directed by Sister Rosanne Popp, M.D. and located in the East End of Houston, CHRISTUS St. Mary's Clinic provides vital primary health care, prescription assistance, nutrition education and mental health services to uninsured and underserved patients.
CHRISTUS Our Daily Bread
Every day is a fight for people suffering from mental illness and chemical addictions. CHRISTUS Our Daily Bread provides guidance and structure to homeless clients, helping them develop a plan of action to break the cycles of addiction and despair. Clients of the center receive nutritious meals, clean clothing, personal hygiene needs, and a structured recovery program.
CHRISTUS Point of Light Clinic
CHRISTUS Point of Light clinic is located in Dickinson, Texas, a medically underserved community 30 miles southeast of Houston. Run by family physician, Sister Ricca Dimalibot, MD, and family nurse Elizabeth Ryan, MSN, RN, NP-C, the clinic opened in 1989 in response to a growing need for healthcare providers in an area of low income between Houston and Galveston. Thirty-one years later, the Clinic continues to provide affordable, quality health care to thousands of men, women, and children annually.
CHRISTUS Operation San José
Since 1983, Operation San José Mission Trip has provided annual surgical missions to Latin America to provide free surgical repair of cranial and facial birth defects to indigent children born with treatment for cleft lip and palate deformities. Through medical and surgical interventions, patients with cleft palate and craniofacial abnormalities can improve their physical condition and look forward to a brighter and healthier future. Whether a patient's deformities are congenital or acquired, and whether the patient is a child or an adult, the Cronin & Brauer Clinic offers the highest level of multidisciplinary care and treatment.
CHRISTUS Learning Center
The CHRISTUS Learning Center offers adult ESL (English as a Second Language), ABE (Adult Basic Education), and GED (General Educational Development) classes. The ESL program enables adult learners (regardless of their current language ability) who are not fluent in English or cannot read and write in English, to acquire proficiency in English communication, enabling them to achieve their personal goals and professionals. The ABE program enables adults of all ages who want to improve their reading, math, grammar, and writing skills for work or continuing education. The GED program is designed to prepare students in specific content areas to pass the high school equivalency exam.
