UTMB Students Give Back At CHRISTUS Our Daily Bread
CHRISTUS Our Daily Bread recently welcomed two special volunteers – Noah Kemp and Alex Yu, both fourth year medical school students from UTMB Galveston. Volunteerism is a graduation requirement for the school, and students have a list of organizations from which to pick, which includes Our Daily Bread.
Both Yu, who plans to practice Internal Medicine, and Kemp, who plans to be an Anesthesiologist, have been assisting in the food pantry. Keeping the food pantry organized and stocked at Our Daily Bread is critical, as it serves for the basis for all the meals provided to clients.
In addition to placing donations on the shelves, volunteers must also be aware of expiration dates on current stock, and either remove expired ones or organize the shelf based on those products that are closer to expiring.
“I liked the mission of Our Daily Bread and was happy to find a place in the community that’s not clinical,” Kemp said.
Our Daily Bread is grateful to volunteers like Yu and Kemp who share their time to meet the daily needs of Galveston’s homeless. Interested in volunteering? Call 409.765.6971 to learn more.
